Surat, also known as the Diamond City, reported a dramatic increase in H1N1 swine flu infections on Tuesday, bringing the citys total count to 100. Despite a decline in COVID-19 cases in the city, the increase in H1N1 cases is alarming.

Three swine flu patients are receiving hospital care, and six H1N1-related deaths have been reported in the past several weeks. On Tuesday, ten new cases of Covid-19 were reported, bringing the total number of active cases to 84, while 5 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized. The SMC has mandated vaccination at the citys Ganesh pandals.

According to the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) health officer, the rate of H1N1 transmission has decreased from a fortnight ago. They anticipated that the number of swine flu cases would surpass 100 by August 15, but it took some time, demonstrating a decrease in the transmission rate.

However, during the Ganesh festival and Navratri, health officials expect an increase in the transmission rate. Children under the age of five, older adults, pregnant women, and those with co-morbid conditions are more likely to contract the infection; hence taking proper precautions was important.(Times of India, Aug 24, 2022)
